John Massari

While Lady Gaga's Bad Romance music video (2009) represents his most recent work in creating original sound design, John Massari's career path began to germinate at age 6, after his family moved to Los Angeles, California from New York city.

In the summer of 1960, his first ever theatrical matinée movie experience was a double feature: Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) and The Time Machine (1960). The musical scores to both films made such a powerful impression upon him, that later that afternoon he sat down at the family piano and began to explore creating original music.

His early musical instrument training included piano, trumpet, and contra bass. In 1974 he studied musical composition with Victor Savant at Chapman College In 1976 he attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he studied composition and orchestration with Henri Lazarof, and David Raksin as well as private studies in orchestration and conducting with Albert Harris.

While at UCLA, Massari organized concert programs featuring original compositions and arrangements and was awarded the 1978 Frank Sinatra Music Award. From 1978 through 1983 he served as orchestrator for composers Jerry Fielding, David Rose, and Mark Snow. Massari has been a composer for feature films, television, and commercials since 1982. He pursued further studies in composition with Leonard Stein from 1990-91. In 1990 he composed 'The War Prayer,' a Narrative Oratorio for Orchestra and Chorus.

Massari is probably best known - and most admired - for creating the 'Wonderful World of Disney' theme. Other TV music credits include his Cable Ace nominated score for _'Ray Bradbury Theatre, The' (1985)_.' Among his feature film work are the scores for MGM's Cult Classic _Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988)_ and the comedy Breathing Hard (2000). In addition, he has worked extensively in DVD home entertainment, scoring original compositions for bonus material on films such as 'Gone in 60 Seconds' and 'Mission to Mars' as well as Disney classics 'Old Yeller' and '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea'. On the commercial side, his music has been heard in commercials for Nextel, Pontiac and IBM with Ear to Ear Audio Banks

An avid explorer of California's Mojave desert, John Massari made a significant precious metals discovery on April 25, 1995.

The Cell 2 and all of my film and commercial projects, rely heavily on my very unique and dynamic experience in composing and producing finished music score for broadcast in all media exhibition formats. 

My thirty years career experience in the media industry has been fueled by invention and innovation.
