Matt Gates is a vibrant and truly dynamic film and television composer. Matt's personality and music are defined by intense and focused energy. Gates is a master at bringing this energy to a film, giving it new life. Even when the film is already packed with emotion Matt never fails to add force to the images.

Gates was recently honored with the prestigious Jerry Goldsmith film-scoring Award by BMI an accolade given to only one composer annually. He was also awarded a coveted position in the renowned ASCAP film music workshop selected from over 300 applicants.

Matt is currently scoring Evans Butterworth's "Carbon Copy" a film filled with mystery, intrigue, romance and action. The film also incorporates a unique interactive system that allows the audience to choose the direction of the film at various points along the way. Matt is also nearing completion of an undisclosed online multiplayer game.

Gates is an incredibly dedicated and prolific composer. In one 3-week period Gates completed and scored four different short films with a chamber sized orchestra. Matt's organizational skills and intense level of energy and commitment led to extremely successful scores for all the films. Director of the film “E.M.S,” Raj Patal, said of Matt's work “it added immensely to the impact of the film.” Director Sarah Ayers hailed the music for her film “Fortune, Misfortune” as “the most important element of the film”

Matt is well known for his brilliant and dazzling use of the orchestra; he never fails to be innovative in composing for acoustic as well as electronic instruments. Matt has a professional music production studio and is more than capable of composing music realized entirely in his studio. Whether the score is realized with full orchestra or synthetically in his studio the energy of Gates's music always shines through.
